Manhunt continues one week after Whitburn assault

Police are continuing to hunt for a man one week after an assault in South Tyneside.

The incident happened at 1am March 25 at a home in Whitburn.

Northumbria Police urged the public not to approach the suspect and launched a search for the man.

Parks in Cleadon and South Shields were searched, with officers on the ground and a helicopter in the sky all involved in the search.

Despite searching the Cleadon Hills Nature Reserve and Temple Park in South Shields, the suspect is still at large.

The male, aged in his late 50s, was last seen wearing a camouflage brown and black jacket with black jeans, brown boots and a brown hunting style hat.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Anyone who believes they have seen a man matching his description should not approach him and should contact police on 999 quoting log 28 250320.”
