Mangalore MLA U T Khader slams Centre for charging GST

MANGALURU: Slamming the central government over the introduction of 5% GST on packaged food products, including cereals, pulses, flour, curd, lassi, puffed rice and other products, deputy leader of opposition in assembly, and Mangalore MLA U T Khader, said that it is a severe blow for the common man.

Addressing the media here on Tuesday, Khader said that while the Centre had reduced the corporate tax from 30% to 22%, it has increased taxes on products used by people in the middle class and lower middle class.

“Instead of empowering the common man, the government is pushing them to hardship through hiking GST on essential commodities. The faulty economic policies of the government has affected the people. The levying of additional GST on essential commodities will destroy the economy of the country. The Congress will continue to protest against these anti-people policies,” Khader said.
