Mane Suspended As Reports Allege Bayern Star Struck Teammate

Bayern Munich has suspended star forward Sadio Mané for the club’s upcoming Bundesliga match against Hoffenheim after reports emerged of an altercation with teammate Leroy Sané following Tuesday’s 3–0 Champions League loss to Manchester City.

German outlet Bild previously reported Mané had struck Sané in the face following an argument in the dressing room after the quarterfinal first leg, with Mané reportedly unhappy with how his teammate had addressed him. The duo could also be seen arguing on the field at the end of the match after Mané came on as a second-half substitute.

“Sadio Mané, 31, will not be included in the FC Bayern squad for this Saturday’s home match against 1899 Hoffenheim,” Bayern Munich released in a statement. “This is due to his misconduct after Bayern’s Champions League match at Manchester City. Mané will also be given a fine.”

The incident added to a tumultuous last month for Bayern. The club fired manager Julian Nagelsmann at the end of March and brought in Thomas Tuchel. Then the club was knocked out of the German Cup by Freiburg in the quarterfinals, while Tuesday’s Champions League rout now sees it facing another quarterfinal exit.  Bayern currently sits atop the Bundesliga with a two-point lead.

Mané joined the German champions from Liverpool in the summer in a deal reportedly worth €32 million ($33.5 million). Despite 11 goals, his first season with the club has been hampered by a leg injury that saw him miss the World Cup with Senegal
