Manchester weather: Temperatures set to take a drastic dip - but it WILL get better again

Temperatures are set to take a drastic dip from today, putting an end to the hottest April on record.

Over the last week Greater Manchester has been basking in temperatures over 20C and dry conditions, prompting concerns the public would defy the UK's lockdown measures.

However, from Tuesday temperatures will dramatically fall and remain cooler until the weekend.

It will be a rather murky day in Greater Manchester today, with cloudy and grey skies expected.

A band of rain is edging northwards and there could be some rainshowers arriving by the afternoon.

According to the Met Office website it will be 'much cooler than recently', with highs of around 11C.

Overnight it will be cloudy and dry throughout most of the region.

Any rainshowers will gradually start to fade.

Temperatures are expected to dip to around 1C.

Wednesday will start off cloudy.

A further band of heavy rain will travel northeastwards through the afternoon, but some sunny spells will then follow.

It will be breezy for most of the day with temperatures remaining at around 12C.

The unsettled pattern will continue into Thursday, with rain clearing to locally thundery showers and highs of around 11C.

On Friday there will be further showers and cool temperatures.

However, by the weekend the weather will start to improve.

On Saturday temperatures will rise slightly to around 14C, but it will feel breezy at times.

It will be dry, although there could be some rain overnight.

Sunday will also be dry, with temperatures recovering to around 15C.

According to the Met Office, the unsettled conditions are likely to continue into the start of May as Atlantic weather systems bring further bands of rain to the UK.

But as May continues warmer settled conditions are expected to make a return.

A statement said: "It is expected to be windy at times, especially around the south and west coasts. Temperatures should remain around average, but with the potential for some warmer days in the east.

"Towards the end of this period, although confidence is low, there are some signs that more settled conditions may return.

"From mid-month until the end of May, conditions look mixed. There is likely to be a mixture of changeable periods of a few days with the chance of thundery showers, but also some periods of drier and sunnier weather.

"Temperatures are likely to be near the climatological average, or maybe slightly above, with rainfall around average as well."
