Manchester weather forecast as temperatures set to soar - but make the most of it

Greater Manchester is set to bask in balmy temperatures - but the warm weather is only going to last until this weekend.

Forecasters have said to expect spring-like conditions today and on Friday, with long spells of sunshine and light winds.

Temperatures in the region will reach highs of 16C today, which is way above the average for March.

Tomorrow temperatures will soar even further, with highs of around 17C expected, meaning Manchester will be warmer than the Croatian capital city Zagreb and Istanbul, in Turkey.

During the night time it is expected to stay dry and clear.

Temperatures could drop to between 1C to 5C, causing a bit of frost to develop in some areas.

There will also be some misty fog patches around in the mornings.

However, the sunny weather will not last for very long as cloudier skies and rainshowers are expected to arriver on Saturday.

Temperatures will dip to just 10C on Saturday, making it feel cooler.

On Mother's Day it will remain dry, but it will feel even colder with highs of around 9C.

There may also be some hard frost in the mornings and some sunny spells during the day on Sunday.

Next week will start off chilly and there could be some rain showers.

It will become more changeable as the week continues, with rain and strong winds at times.

Alex Burkill, meteorologist for the Met Office, said: "There will be lots of fine sunny weather as we go through today and tomorrow.

"Today it is looking mostly dry, with bright and sunny spells. Temperatures reaching 15C to 16C. It will feel warm in that sunshine.

"Tonight there won't be a huge amount of change. In Manchester temperatures will fall to 2C to 3C, it could drop below freezing in rural parts. There will be a touch of frost in the morning and pockets of fog.

"Tomorrow is a repeat performance. It might be a touch cloudier, but by and large a similar day. Temperatures 15C to 17C."

He added: "It isn't going to last into the weekend. It will turn cloudy with a bit of rain on Saturday. There will be a drop in temperatures on Sunday and it will be colder than it has been as of late."
