Manchester United vs Burnley team news: Chris Smalling fit again, Marcus Rashford likely to return

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ready to welcome a fit-again Chris Smalling back to his Manchester United squad.

Smalling is yet to make an appearance for Solskjaer, having last played in the 4-1 victory over Fulham under Jose Mourinho in December.

The 29-year-old defender has struggled with a foot injury of late but could be included in the squad for Burnley’s visit to Old Trafford.

“Chris Smalling’s looking better,” Solskjaer said on Monday. “He’s trained the whole week, so he might be in the squad.

“We’ll see how he is after yesterday because it was quite a tough session yesterday.”

Marcos Rojo’s long-standing fitness issues make him unavailable for Tuesday night’s game.

Marouane Fellaini – who has only played 31 minutes under Solskjaer – also remains sidelined with a calf problem.

Solskjaer is likely to restore Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to his starting line-up having named the pair on the substitutes’ bench against Arsenal last Friday.

Burnley, meanwhile, are set to be without winger Robbie Brady for Tuesday’s trip to Old Trafford.

The former United youth player picked up a groin injury in his side’s 5-0 FA Cup defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson is in contention to return after spending three weeks sidelined with a thigh injury.
