Manchester United told why Declan Rice would leave West Ham as transfer decision date set

Manchester United target Declan Rice's future hinges on how West Ham perform this season, according to an ex-Premier League striker.

Rice is widely believed to be on United's summer wishlist as they look to strengthen a troublesome central midfield area. United kept their powder dry in January but will be in need of reinforcements come the summer with Paul Pogba expected to leave.

West Ham are thought to want £100million-plus for the midfielder and QPR striker Charlie Austin believes Rice's future all depends on how the Hammers see out the season.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: "West Ham have a better chance come the summer of keeping hold of Declan Rice with them making the top four, than what they do without.

"If they don't make top four, it is likely that Declan Rice is going to leave.

"If they went and got a striker or strikers to help them get into the top four and they achieve that, it is more likely Declan Rice is going to stay at West Ham."
