Manchester United told who they should have signed rather than Jadon Sancho during summer

Manchester United have been told they should have signed West Ham star Declan Rice rather than Jadon Sancho during the summer.

United spent big money on bringing Sancho to Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund earlier this year, shelling out £73m having targeted him the year before.

The England international has struggled for form since arriving though, leading to his chances in the side being limited under former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Since the Norwegian’s departure, Sancho’s form has picked up with goals against Villarrel and Chelsea seeing him given a run of starts in recent weeks, although he is yet to show the sort of form that caught the eye during his time at Borussia Dortmund.

With Ralf Rangnick now in charge, United are likely to make some additions during the January transfer window, with the midfield likely to be one of his top priorities.

Rice is one of the names to have been linked with a move to Old Trafford, having been in superb form for West Ham and England over the past year.

United hold a long-standing interest in Rice, although it is much more likely a move for him would be made during the summer transfer window.

Former England midfielder Carlton Palmer though feels United should have already gone after the midfielder, believing he should have been a bigger target than Sancho.

“If I were Manchester United, I'm not saying I wouldn't have taken Sancho but Rice is the one that I would have got,” Palmer told GIVEMESPORT.

"He would have knitted their midfield together and that's the type of player that Manchester United need."

Despite United’s clear interest in Rice, they are highly likely to face competition for his signature come the summer.

Rivals Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool have been linked with the 22-year-old, with West Ham expecting a huge fee if they’re to part ways with their superstar.
