Manchester United target Raphael Varane makes final decision on Real Madrid future

Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane has confirmed that he will not leave the Bernabeu this summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in the market for a central defender and Ed Woodward previously indicated United would be willing to spend £100million on a player in Varane's mould.

United's woeful end-of-season form saw them concede 13 goals in their last six games.

A successful move for Varane already seemed unlikely given United's lack of Champions League football next season and the player has now confirmed he is intent on staying put.

"I'm going to continue here next year," Varance told Marca. "I'm sure we're going to relive strong emotions."

The defender also sent an ominous message to the rest of Europe as he said Madrid will rebuild this summer after a disappointing campaign.

"We have fought and we have tried hard, we can not blame anything, but it is true that we missed that spark in the difficult moments," Varane added. "They are cycles, I have not been to my best level but I will see the best Varane again.

"We have to evolve and Zidane is clear about it, we have to rebuild, we have to change things as in a change of cycle."
