Manchester United squad for Champions League group phase confirmed

Manchester United have confirmed their squad for the Champions League group phase with deadline day arrivals Alex Telles, Edinson Cavani and Facundo Pellistri all included.

However, the club have omitted a trio of senior first-team players, with Sergio Romero, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo all absent from the 25-man 'A list' which appeared on the official Uefa website.

United had the misfortune of being drawn into the 'Group of Death' in last week's group stage draw in Geneva, as they were put in Group H alongside Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig and Istanbul Basaksehir.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side will get their European campaign underway with an away trip to last year's runners-up PSG in just two weeks' time on October 20 and their squad for the competition has been confirmed.

It was a busy deadline day for United with four new signings confirmed, and left-back Telles, veteran striker Cavani and winger Pellistri have been named in the 25-man 'A list' squad. Amad Diallo will not arrive at United from Atalanta until January and can be added to the squad for knockout phase, should United make it out of their group.

Mason Greenwood, Brandon Williams and Teden Mengi are not required to be included on the 'A list' but will be able to feature as they do not need to be specifically registered.

Any player born on, or after, 1 January 1998 and has been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted period of two years since his 15th birthday can go on the 'B list'.

United are entitled to register an unlimited number of players on the 'B list' during the season, but the list must be submitted no later than 24 hours the day before a match.

Omitted trio Romero, Jones and Rojo are all free to leave United after being deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford. Argentine goalkeeper Romero is third-choice at United and is yet to report back to Carrington this season, while Rojo trained away from the first-team squad in a secure bubble in case of a transfer abroad. Jones remains sidelined by injury.

United's Champions League A list squad:

Goalkeepers: De Gea, Grant, Henderson.

Defenders: Lindelof, Bailly, Maguire, Shaw, Fosu-Mensah, Telles, Wan-Bissaka, Tuanzebe.

Midfielders: Pogba, Mata, Lingard, Fred, Fernandes, James, Pellistri, Matic, Van de Beek, McTominay.

Forwards: Cavani, Martial, Rashford, Ighalo.
