Manchester United slapped with FA charge after Chelsea penalty fracas

The FA have charged Manchester United for failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during last weekend’s game with Chelsea.

The Red Devils were unhappy with the late award of a penalty after Scott McTominay was judged to have fouled Armando Broja in the box, leading to Jorginho’s opening goal in the 1-1 draw.

Referee Stuart Attwell booked Fred for his protests and, on Wednesday, the FA announced the club had been charged.

A statement read: “Manchester United have been charged with a breach of FA Rule E20.1 after its fixture versus Chelsea on Saturday October 22 2022 in the Premier League.

“Manchester United allegedly failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion in the 84th minute, and the club has until Friday 28 October to provide a response.”

Erik ten Hag refused to criticise the referee after Casemiro’s late header rescued a point for United at Stamford Bridge.

He said: “It is what it is and we accept it and we fought back. I have to see. The referee made the decision, we have to accept it and we carry on.”
