Manchester United's Tahith Chong sends heartfelt message to Birmingham City after loan

By Daniel Murphy

Tahith Chong has penned an emotional 'thank you' message to Birmingham City after spending the season on loan at the Championship side.

After continuing to struggle to break into the Manchester United side under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Chong was sent on a third loan spell from the club last summer following underwhelming stints at Werder Bremen and Club Brugge in the previous season. The Dutchman made 20 appearances for the Blues, scoring a single goal and providing three assists, but endured an up and down campaign.

Chong suffered a groin injury towards the end of 2021 that required surgery and kept him sidelined for over three months. The winger had returned to United for his rehabilitation but went back to Birmingham for the remainder of the season after making a full recovery.

Now the 22-year-old has sent a message to the club and its supporters after his loan came to an end for good following the conclusion of the Championship season. He wrote on Instagram: "Birmingham City as a whole I would like to say thank you for this season.

"I have felt the love from the moment I stepped in. This past year Birmingham has felt like family to me and for that I will forever be grateful.

"A thank you to the manager for the trust he showed me. All the staff for helping me thru the season and lastly I want to say thank you to the fans for all the support they have showed the team. Birmingham will always be family. KRO"

Chong's contract at United was set to expire this summer but the club have opted to trigger a 12-month extension which will keep him at Old Trafford for one more season.
