Manchester United's Tahith Chong opens up on 'tough' injury rehab during Birmingham loan

Manchester United loanee Tahith Chong has admitted it was 'tough' to deal with his groin injury over the last few months.

Chong joined Birmingham City on loan in the summer and the forward hit the ground running at St. Andrew's. Chong made 13 appearances and a stellar impression at the club, but he sustained a groin injury in training at the end of October.

After undergoing an operation to address the injury, the 22-year-old returned to United to begin his rehabilitation. Chong has now made a full recovery and, having returned to Birmingham, he scored on his first senior start in months at the weekend.

Chong scored within two minutes to inspire his side to a 2-1 away win over Bristol City on Sunday and he was named Man of the Match for his performance. Chong reflected on that display and opened up on his 'tough' recovery back at United.

"Before the game I was speaking to some of the guys, Lyle [Taylor], Baca [Juninho Bacuna] and obviously it’s been a while since I have started. I came out the stadium was full, I had that buzz, it was a nice feeling,” Chong said.

“It’s wonderful. When you get injured it’s tough, I was still watching all the games, you are supporting them but on the other hand you want to be on the pitch.

“It is tough mentally, I was just very happy – even when I came out the stadium was full and I have not had that for a couple of months, it was exciting.

“I have come back, the changing room is almost completely different there is new players, some I knew already some I didn’t – and we are getting used to each other. We have got good players and hopefully we can just keep building.”

United's Teden Mengi is also on loan at Birmingham after making the temporary switch in January.
