Manchester United's Ed Woodward receives backing from Premier League rival

West Ham co-owner David Gold has condemned the attack on the home of Manchester United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward last month.

Police are investigating the attack from angry United supporters after videos emerged on social media showing a group hurling flares towards Woodward's home.

Gold, who left the directors' box at West Ham's London Stadium due to fan unrest during a defeat by Burnley in 2018, has offered support.

"I know exactly what Ed's experienced. I've experienced it four or five times myself," Gold told Evening Standard.

"The league will come together as a unit to protect the likes of Ed and punish those perpetrators. It cannot be tolerated.

"United are a big club, Ed Woodward is a big figure in the game. He can't be worried about his wife and children."

Gold's comments come after the Premier League took a strong stance against abusive behaviour, announcing a league-wide initiative that will ban supporters from attending matches at every top-flight club if they are banned by another Premier League side.
