Manchester United loanee Tahith Chong sets himself Werder Bremen challenge

Manchester United loanee Tahith Chong says he is aiming to break into the Werder Bremen starting line up after his recent goal scoring heroics.

Dutch winger Chong left United on a season-long loan in the summer transfer window as headed to Germany to sign for Bremen.

The 20-year-old shone for his new side in pre-season but has been mainly utilised from the bench since the new Bundesliga campaign started last month.

Chong lined up for Bremen in a 4-1 loss to Hertha Berlin on the first day of the season but had to settle for a place on the bench in the following three matches.

The youngster was restored to the starting XI for Bremen's 4-1 over FC St. Pauli in a friendly on Wednesday and repaid manager Florian Kohfeldt with a well-taken brace.

Chong insists he is happy to even be on the bench most weeks in the Bundesliga but the United youngster reiterated his main ambition is to become a regular starter.

"It’s always nice to score, especially as an attacker, but I’ve already said plenty of times that I can’t score without my teammates," Chong said after the game. "For the second goal, Maxi’s [Eggestein] pass left me completely free – they all make it really easy for me.

"Obviously I would prefer to start matches, but I will still give it my all when coming off the bench. I’m a really patient guy and I will try to keep improving and helping the team.”
