Manchester United launch first offer for Benjamin Sesko after Newcastle start 'bidding war'

Manchester United are lining up their first offer for Benjamin Sesko after Newcastle started what RB Leipzig hope will become a “bidding war” for the striker.

Newcastle have tabled an offer worth £69.8million including add-ons and United are said to be ready to match that bid after fresh talks with Leipzig over the weekend.

Ruben Amorim has made Sesko his top transfer target and Sky Germany say United are now planning to lodge an official bid for him.

Sesko is said to be open to a move to both club but there have been suggestions that he is leaning towards Manchester United.

Newcastle’s bid is said to be “attractive” for Leipzig but the payment structure “would need to be adjusted”, according to the latest in Germany.

Leipzig are said to be in a “top situation” and want a bidding war between Manchester United and Newcastle, who both want to sign Sesko before the new season starts in two weeks’ time.

Newcastle have made their move for Sesko amid continued uncertainty over the future of Liverpool target Alexander Isak.

Liverpool have had a £110m bid for Isak rejected and are weighing up a second offer.

United are prepared to sell Rasmus Hojlund for just £30m to help fund their move for Sesko.

United paid £72m for Hojlund two years ago but are willing to take a huge loss on the striker.

Hojlund, who scored twice against Bournemouth in Chicago on Wednesday, has said he wants to stay at Old Trafford.

United have already signed Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Diego Leon this summer.
