Manchester United issue statement as Under-18s fixture postponed amid Covid fears

Manchester United's Under-18s game with West Brom on Saturday has been postponed.

The club have both agreed to call off the game in light of the growing Covid cases at the Reds, which has seen two senior fixtures this week postponed.

United's Under-23s' match against Chelsea on Friday night has already been called off with some of the squad having earlier in the week tested positive.

Now the Under-18s fixture has suffered the same fate as a safety measure. There is no confirmation of positive results within the squad.

A club statement read: "Manchester United and West Bromwich Albion have mutually agreed to postpone the Under-18s fixture that was due to take place this Saturday.

"With the welfare of Academy players and staff always Manchester United’s highest priority, the decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to prioritise the health and safety of both teams."

At present, United's senior side will next play on December 27, but a number of Premier League clubs are pushing for a pause in fixture in a bid to contain Covid cases.
