Manchester United 'interested' in signing Denzel Dumfries and more transfer rumours

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries during the January transfer window.

According to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato Web (via HITC), United are keen on signing the Inter right-back, as Erik ten Hag looks to provide some much needed support for Diogo Dalot. The Portugal international has been superb this season, yet it is thought that the United manager still sees the position as an area that needs improvement in January.

The report claims that Inter value the Netherlands international full-back at €50million (£43m), something that Ten Hag will have to convince the hierarchy at Old Trafford to sanction after spending £225m over the summer. Although signing a striker will be the top priority for United in the short-term, the reliance that the Reds have had on Dalot this season means that they are potentially one injury away from a worrying drop off.

Tyrell Malacia stepped in as right-back for the final Premier League game before the World Cup against Fulham, yet he did not put in an assuring display in what is an unnatural position for the former Feyenoord man.

Elsewhere, Dutch outlet ED (via Metro) report that PSV will raise Cody Gakpo's transfer fee in a bid to ward off United and other interested suitors following his fine form during the World Cup.

Gakpo was on United's radar during the summer transfer window, yet a deal failed to materialise ahead of the September 1 deadline as United signed Antony from Ajax instead. After scoring two goals in as many games for the Netherlands in Qatar, the 23-year-old has caught the attention of the top clubs around Europe.

Although United might need to pay over the odds to get a deal for Gakpo over the line, there is no doubting his ability, as Ten Hag looks to bolster his attacking options in January.
