Manchester United help Hearts out by waiving Joel Pereira fee

Manchester United have waived the outstanding loan fee for keeper Joel Pereira.

The 23-year-old joined Hearts on loan in August 2019, and went on to make a total of 25 appearances in a troubled campaign for the Tynecastle club.

In a welcome boost, United have written off the money they were due from Hearts. The English Premier League club have done the same for Burton Albion, who had taken keeper Kieran O'Hara, and Bolton Wanderers, where midfielder Ethan Hamilton had been playing.

In total, the gesture from United has saved the three clubs £130,000.

According to the Daily Mail, Old Trafford insiders believed it was "unfair to increase the financial pressure on smaller clubs already reeling from the coronavirus pandemic and its impact on the game".

Meanwhile, Hearts chief Ann Budge is expected to submit her revised proposals for league reconstruction today.

A source told Record Sport: “Excellent progress has been made on the paper that is proposing an amended structure to help Scottish football through the challenges of the Covid pandemic.

“Ann has been consulting with clubs across all leagues, to understand their individual circumstances and continues to do so.

“These conversations take time but are vital in understanding the issues and challenges clubs face and refine the content of the paper.

“As such nothing will be issued until Monday, at the earliest.”
