Manchester United handed injury worry by Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has withdrawn from the England squad and returned to Manchester United after picking up a "back issue".

The United right-back was called up to his first Three Lions squad last week and was in line to make his international debut against Bulgaria on Saturday or Kosovo on Tuesday.

But Wan-Bissaka , who has enjoyed a bright start to his United career, has been forced to pull out of Gareth Southgate's squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers.

The 21-year-old trained at St George's Park on Monday and Tuesday, but he has now returned to his club.

An FA statement said: "Aaron Wan-Bissaka has withdrawn from the England squad.

"The Manchester United right-back has returned to his club due to a back issue.

"With Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kieran Trippier already included in Gareth Southgate’s now 24-man squad, no replacements are planned."

Competition for the right-back berth with England is fierce, with Kyle Walker absent from the latest squad despite being considered the incumbent of that position in the most recent internationals.

Wan-Bissaka joined United for £45million from Crystal Palace this summer and has been one of the bright spots of United's season so far. His withdrawal from international duty comes a day after Paul Pogba was forced out of the France squad with an ankle injury.

With Anthony Martial also absent from the draw with Southampton at the weekend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could face a minor injury crisis ahead of the Premier League fixture with Leicester City after the international break.

That could certainly be the case at full-back, with Luke Shaw also missing against the Saints last weekend, while Diogo Dalot is currently on the injury list as well.
