Manchester United great Patrice Evra mocks Donny van de Beek and Paul Pogba comparisons

Patrice Evra said he laughs when he hears people compare Donny van de Beek to Paul Pogba after the Frenchman sparked Manchester United's comeback at West Ham.

Pogba made his first appearance for United in over a month at the London Stadium, netting a superb equaliser from distance before goals from Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford secured victory.

Pogba has struggled for fitness and form this season, and Van de Beek has been getting the nod ahead of him of late. The pair lined up together on Saturday evening but Van de Beek was hooked at half-time while Pogba had a decisive impact on proceedings.

" What a great goal from Paul," Evra said. "When people start to compare him with Van de Beek, it just makes me laugh - look at that goal."

Evra was critical of Van de Beek's performance against West Ham after the midfielder was replaced by Bruno Fernandes at the pause.

Marcus Rashford was also sent on as a replacement for Edinson Cavani and Evra said Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was deserving of credit for making changes after a poor first half.

He said: "I think we should give credit to Ole because when we lose, people always attack Ole. What a great change - Bruno and Marcus running behind the defence, that’s what we needed.

"They made the difference, and Mata, and Paul came alive. Everyone knew Cavani wasn’t having a good game, Van de Beek wasn’t either, he (Solskjaer) made a quick change, we won.

"I don’t want this team to react, I want them to act, but to be fair, after that poor first half... and now it’s like four consecutive wins.

"So, it’s all positive for United but of course, when you know about football, you know something’s wrong when you always have to come back. I'm really happy tonight ."
