Manchester United given boost in David Brooks transfer pursuit

The path for Manchester United to sign David Brooks may have cleared, with Leicester City's interest waning in the Bournemouth winger.

MEN Sport understand the Foxes' loan capture of Roma winger Cengiz Under has shifted their priorities in the transfer window. Brendan Rodgers' side decided a season-long loan deal for the Turkish wide man represented better value than a swoop for Brooks, who Bournemouth value at £40million.

Jadon Sancho remains United's top target as they search for a possible three further deals in this summer window. A right-winger, even if Sancho cannot be acquired, is the priority for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

And while they have considered a move for Brooks, who started Bournemouth's 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough at the weekend, no official bid has yet been lodged.

The Leicester situation could still represent a boost for United, however, if they decide to move for the Wales international.

Brooks missed the majority of last season through injury but is still only 23 and highly rated by many at United.

Old Trafford legend Ryan Giggs manages the former Man City academy player at international level and believes Brooks has what it takes to shine at United.

"I've seen there's speculation about a lot of players," he said. "Brooksy's obviously a talented player and now Bournemouth are in the Championship. I've always said it's better if the lads are playing, and the higher the standard the better as well. But that isn't always a given.

"Some players have gone to Premier League teams and not actually played. We've got a lot of lads in the Championship. I don't think it would matter with Brooksy, even if it's in the Premier League or Championship, he'd still have that bit of class.

"There's a lot of speculation with a lot of Premier League clubs, United included. He's a player who gets you off your seat, he's someone who likes to take players on and make things happen."
