Manchester United Foundation staff complete Manchester Marathon

Two staff members from the Manchester United Foundation were among the 28,000 runners who took part in the adidas Manchester Marathon.

The race took place last Sunday with the event attracting runners from across the country and further, with many taking part for a good cause.

Manchester United Foundation's Community Coordinator, Andy Jones, who runs initiatives for the young people of Greater Manchester, was among those who took part.

Andy was born in Swinton and now lives in Monton, a mere 10 minutes from the Theatre of Dreams. The marathon wasn’t the first time he has taken part in a run, though. He told the M.E.N: “I’ve done a few 10k races and triathlons in the past as well as cycle events, but this is my first marathon.”

He managed to complete the race with a time of 3:38:09 and said that the city's atmosphere helped get him across the line, adding: "The event was brilliant and the crowds were unbelievable."

Joining his colleague in the relay run was Jordan Maguire, who is the Foundation’s SEND (special educational needs and disability) Officer.

Jordan is an adopted Mancunian, originally from Newcastle but living in Manchester for a decade. He ran the marathon for the second year in a row and he suggested the city has a special feeling around marathon time.

“The togetherness and support the people give you, people push you that extra step when you feel like giving up is different up north, this city is united on occasions like today.

“The bee symbol stands for the city, the hard workers that come together day after day, that’s what makes Manchester special, even though I am not from here, I feel a part of the community.”
