Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has perfect response to Robin van Persie comparisons

Mason Greenwood says he is flattered by the comparisons with Robin van Persie but insists he is looking to forge his own legacy at Manchester United.

The teenage forward has enjoyed a remarkable breakthrough season at Old Trafford which has seen him establish himself as one of the most lethal strikers in the Premier League.

Greenwood has saved United with vital goals against Sheffield United, Everton and West Ham in the league this season and has made a name for himself for his deadly finishing abilities when under pressure.

Many pundits and former players have likened Greenwood's technique to that of club legend Van Persie, with fellow academy star Brandon Williams the latest to draw the similarities.

“He’s crazy. He’s always working, I don’t actually know what foot he is, it's impossible to tell. Did you see the two goals he scored (against Bournemouth)? They way he strikes it is like Robin van Persie," Williams told Pro:Direct Soccer last week.

Greenwood admits he is flattered by all the comparisons with the Dutch great but is hopeful he will be remembered with his own legacy at the club.

"Yeah, it’s nice to hear the comparisons with him [Robin van Persie]," he told Sky Sports.

"He’s obviously been at Manchester United and been a top forward but I want to make my own path and be my own player.

"But obviously to be talked about like him is nice to hear."
