Manchester United forward Anthony Martial reveals the target Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has set him

Anthony Martial has revealed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expecting him to take 'a lot of responsibility' when playing for Manchester United this season.

French forward Martial has been cited by the United manager as one of the players expected to fill the void left by Romelu Lukaku following his summer move to Inter Milan.

United began the new Premier League season in style last weekend as Martial got on the score sheet during a convincing 4-0 win against Chelsea at Old Trafford.

Martial will be hoping his strike is the first of many in the new campaign, and the 23-year-old has revealed the expectations Solskjaer has of him going into the season.

"Now that I've taken the number nine shirt back once again, all he (Solskjaer) has said to me is that I have a lot of responsibility and that I have to score goals, so that's what I'm trying to do," Martial told the United App.

"We work on that a lot in training and I think it's improving all the time.

“Since I was a young kid, I‘ve always played as a striker but, then again, I’m fine with playing more out wide as it’s a position that I enjoy playing.

"It’s a real pleasure to find myself back in that more central role so I hope I can really help the team from there and go on to score plenty of goals.”
