Manchester United flop Alexis Sanchez's transfer offer that sums up decline since Arsenal exit

Alexis Sanchez could be on his way back to La Liga once his loan spell at Inter comes to an end with the on-loan Manchester United winger still struggling to reach the heights of his three-and-a-half year spell at Arsenal.

Prior to arriving at the Emirates Stadium under Arsene Wenger in 2014, the Chilean played for Barcelona, but if he is to return to Spain it may be with a club outside of the elite.

Ronaldo Nazario, the legendary striker of Brazil and Real Madrid, among other clubs, has called on Sanchez to try his luck at Real Valladolid, the team he now heads as president after making a move behind the scenes since hanging up his boots.

David Luiz: Is his reputation as error-prone unfair?

It could be a move that would benefit the 31-year-old, and allow him to rediscover the magic in less pressurised surroundings, but it would also represent an almighty climb down for the forward, who left Arsenal to join Manchester United in January 2018 amid great fanfare.

The deal saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan move the other way to replace the Chilean at Arsenal but neither player impressed after trading teams, with the Armenian also on-loan in Italy at present with Roma.

After becoming a fan favourite at the Emirates during his best years with the Gunners, the manner of Sanchez's exit, and his performances prior to leaving the club, led to that relationship turning sour.

Speaking in an online press conference in the week reported on by El Cancha, and translated by Sport Witness, Ronaldo said: "Alexis Sanchez has always done well everywhere.

"If he can’t do it at Inter, Valladolid open the doors to welcome him."

In 166 appearances for Arsenal between 2014 and 2018, Sanchez scored 80 goals, and was one of the Premier League's most feared attackers playing down the left hand side and even up front for a period under Wenger.

He struggled to find his feet at United and has even looked off the pace in Italy, managing only one goal and three assists in Serie A.
