Manchester United fans threaten legal action after Chelsea fixture allocation slashed

Manchester United supporters have threatened legal action against Hammersmith & Fulham Council over their reduced ticket allocation for the Chelsea game at Stamford Bridge next week.

United had already sold their away allocation of 2,994 tickets for the game, but they've seen their allocation cut, despite holding discussions with Chelsea and the Met Police. The force wanted to reduce the away allocation due to "policing concerns" and initially wanted it almost halved to allow just 1,500 away fans at Stamford Bridge.

United fought back against those proposals and reluctantly accepted the Met's decision to reduce the number of away supporters in attendance, which is now final at 2,370. The club have since offered fans the chance to swap their Chelsea tickets for another away match, against either Aston Villa, Fulham, Wolves or Arsenal.

Manchester United Supporters' Trust say they will take legal action unless more away fans are allowed to attend the match and have published a legal letter that states they "reserve the right to commence judicial review proceedings" against the council "without further notice" if they do not receive a response by midday (UK time) this Friday.

A spokesperson for MUST added the following comment: "For a Supporters Trust to engage lawyers is always a last resort, but enough is enough. United fans, and football supporters in general, have had their fill of being on the receiving end of unfair and irrational decisions by Councils and the Police who seem to consider us to be a public order problem rather than ordinary people freely enjoying a day out. Tickets had been sold for this game and fans are being treated like second class citizens."
