United fans 'spot' Garnacho's Mount hint

A number of Manchester United supporters believe that the club is making progress with its pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount - and it is thanks to Alejandro Garnacho.

United have identified Mount as their primary target to strengthen their midfield options this summer and are determined to wrap up his signature as quickly as possible. The Reds, however, are understood to have seen three bids turned down for the England international so far, causing them to become unhappy with the Londoners.

John Murtough, who is United's football director, is understood to have taken a dim view of Chelsea's strategy of communicating the Reds' bids through the club's dedicated correspondents in the capital. United's latest bid for the 24-year-old was worth £55million, but Chelsea are holding out for £65million.

Mount's contract is up at the end of June 2024, meaning some United supporters have expressed fears of the club paying over the odds for a player who has just 12 months remaining on his current deal. The midfielder has no intentions of signing a new contract and wants to join United.

Antony's time to shine

If there was anything that Erik ten Hag wanted to achieve last summer, it was to be reunited with Antony at Old Trafford.

After several weeks of speculation, negotiations and even a tantrum or two, Manchester United signed the Brazilian international from Ajax in a deal worth up to £85.5million on the final day of the summer transfer window. He became the club's fifth and final permanent signing of the summer, putting the gloss on a record-breaking summer.

Ten Hag was desperate to strengthen United's right-wing options throughout the summer and Antony, who he had worked with in the Netherlands, was his only target to achieve that mission. The transfer fee, unsurprisingly, raised eyebrows across the globe, not least because the winger had never played in one of Europe's top five leagues.

For many, it was considered a huge gamble, similar to Lisandro Martinez's move to M16 from Ajax a few weeks earlier. Antony, however, began to quash those fears almost immediately after arriving in Manchester.
