Manchester United fans slam VAR after Anthony Martial red card vs Tottenham

Manchester United fans were left furious after Anthony Martial was sent off for violent conduct against Tottenham but the instigator, Eric Lamela, avoided punishment.

Despite an ideal start following Bruno Fernandes' penalty to put United ahead after just 30 seconds, things have gone from bad to worse for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

A catalogue of errors from defenders led to Spurs quickly bringing the game level and then going ahead through goals from Tanguy Ndombele and Son Heung-min, but that wouldn't be the end of United's plight.

While awaiting a Tottenham corner, Martial and Lamela clashed in the six yard box and it resulted in referee Antony Taylor brandishing a red card to the Frenchman.

However, replays would then reveal that Lamela actually appeared to lash out at Martial first before the United striker retaliated, sending the Argentine to the ground clutching his face.

Despite the use of VAR, Lamela didn't receive his marching orders and Martial was forced to leave the pitch, which infuriated supporters.

Things didn't get any better for United following the red card, either. Another mistake at the back, this time a sloppy pass from Eric Bailly, saw Harry Kane steal the ball and eventually fire it into the bottom corner.

Spurs added a fourth before the half-time whistle to cap off a miserable half, with Son getting his second of the game after yet more dreadful defending.
