Manchester United fans send Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Alexis Sanchez message

Manchester United fans want the club to sell Alexis Sanchez this summer after a disappointing spell at Old Trafford.

The Chilean has failed to make an impact since moving from Arsenal 18 months ago in a deal which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan go the other way and nearly 6,000 fans who voted in an online Twitter poll want to see him leave the club this summer.

Of the fans that voted 72% want to see him sold while just 12% want the 30-year-old to stay at the club. 10% of voters think the club should pay him off while the other 6% think he should be sent on loan.

The biggest issue around Sanchez are his huge wages and United may struggle to find a club to sell the Chilean to who could afford, and would want to, pay his wages.

Sanchez only played the full 90 minutes in one Premier League game last season and that was the first match of the season at home against Leicester and there have been reports the Chilean will look for a  new club next season.

The attacker is the highest paid player at the club so may have to agree to take a wage cut if he is serious about moving on from the club. Other options available to United could involve selling the Chile international but still agreeing to pay some of his wages or to pay out the rest of his three year deal so he no longer has a contract with the club.

Solskjaer warned his players back in April that the club could not afford to carry under-performing stars.

"As a club we cannot carry players,”  Solskjaer said. “Everyone has to take ownership, keep improving, show that hunger that you want to get better individually and as a team.

“I’m not just talking about Alexis. Everyone is under the same demands. But if we are talking about Alexis, he hasn’t been lucky with injuries.

“Since I came in, he’s had two long-term injuries and that hasn’t been beneficial to him. Some other players have had injuries as well. But I see the characters we have. I am looking at who we should keep, who we should move on.

“Alexis has got a fantastic talent when he’s at his best level. Now we want him performing for us.”
