Manchester United fans react to Matthijs de Ligt transfer 'rejection'

Manchester United fans awoke to reports on Tuesday morning that Matthijs de Ligt has turned down the opportunity to join the club from Ajax in the summer.

It is claimed by the Daily Star that United were willing to make De Ligt the highest-paid teenager in world football with a five-year contract worth £250,000 a week.

However, De Ligt is said to have made it clear to his agent that he has no intention of moving to Old Trafford - and even made his stance clear before United's failure to qualify for the Champions League was confirmed.

"He will have the choice to join whoever he wants, but he has no interest in going to United," a source said, as quoted by the Star. "They are not the attractive proposition they once were."

If the report is true, it's worrying that big players are already turning down moves to Old Trafford - but United's supporters aren't exactly surprised.

Who in their right mind would move to United right now?

You can't blame him.

Hardly surprising.

Ed Woodward is part of the problem.

Sadly, there are better options out there right now.

It's time for a change of strategy.

Overhaul required.
