Manchester United fans prefer Memphis Depay transfer to Wilfried Zaha reunion

Manchester United fans would prefer the club to re-sign Memphis Depay over Wilfried Zaha.

Both men had big reputations when they were signed by United earlier this decade, with Zaha arriving from Crystal Palace in 2013 and Memphis joining from PSV Eindhoven two years later.

However, neither player delivered on their potential at Old Trafford and Zaha was offloaded in the summer of 2015 before Memphis' departure in January 2017.

Zaha has rebuilt his reputation since returning to Palace and he is regarded as one of the Premier League's best players outside of the top six clubs, while Memphis has enjoyed something of a renaissance with Lyon.

In a poll conducted by the MEN on Sunday that asked fans which former player they would most like to see rejoin the club this summer out of Memphis, Wilfried Zaha and Adnan Januzaj, 37 percent of the 3,836 responders voted in favour of Memphis returning, making him the most popular option.

Zaha garnered 28 percent of the votes, while Januzaj came a distant third with four percent of the votes.

The remaining 31 percent of voters plumped for the 'None of the above' option, with one user writing: "Why go backwards? We have some great youngsters that should be brought in especially next season."

United have buy-back options on Memphis and Januzaj but they are not understood to have one on Zaha.

It was reported by The Sun on Sunday, though, that United could land Zaha for a cut-price fee this summer because they inserted a 25% sell-on clause in the deal that saw him join Palace, meaning the Reds could effectively buy the Ivory Coast international for 75% of his market value.
