Manchester United fans make same Scott McTominay point after performance for Scotland vs England

Manchester United fans were quietly impressed with Scott McTominay's performance in a defensive role for Scotland vs England on Friday night.

McTominay started his second Euro 2020 game in a row for Scotland, who were much improved from their opening defeat to Czech Republic. At Wembley, though, McTominay was moved back into a centre-back role on the right of a back three.

A central midfielder by trade at United, McTominay's performance will have come as no surprise to watching supporters, but his adeptness as a centre-back might have done.

United rarely play with a back three, but have called Luke Shaw into the centre when they do, while Nemanja Matic has been deployed there at times.

Now, fans think McTominay could do a deputising role at the back if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ever wants to shake things up, or is short of other options.

Elsewhere in Euro 2020 on Friday, Victor Lindelof helped Sweden to a second successive clean sheet. Lindelof impressed again as Sweden beat Slovakia, with one final group game against Poland to come.
