Manchester United fans disagree with VAR decision that saw Wolves goal disallowed

Manchester United had VAR to thank as an early Wolves goal was disallowed in the FA Cup third round replay.

Wolves thought they had taken the lead at Old Trafford after a shocking attempt at a cross-field pass from Fred was hit into United teammate Nemanja Matic and bounced into the path of Raul Jimenez.

The Mexican striker turned and nudged the ball into the path of Pedro Neto, who took a touch and fired past Sergio Romero.

However, a VAR review showed that as Jimenez turned away from the challenge of Harry Maguire, the ball bounced onto his hand and into the path of Neto. Jimenez knew nothing of the handball and his arms were in a natural position, but by the letter of the law, the goal was disallowed as there was contact with the hand.

The rule has been a controversial one throughout the season after it was introduced over the summer. So while United fans were obviously pleased not to fall behind, some were in acknowledgement that Jimenez did not knowingly handle the ball and felt the goal should have stood.
