Manchester United confirm new fixture date for rearranged EFL Trophy clash

A new date for Manchester United's rearranged EFL Trophy fixture against Lincoln City has been announced.

United will travel to face The Imps on Tuesday October 1 after their original tie was rearranged earlier in the season.

Neil Wood's side were due to face League One opposition Lincoln late last month, but saw the match moved after the home side's progression in the Carabao Cup.

United's U21 side enjoyed a successful start to life in the Leasing.Com Trophy and eased past Rotherham with a 2-0 win in their maiden match of the tournament.

Meanwhile their opponents tasted defeat in their opening match of the competition when they were beaten 3-1 by Doncaster Rovers last week.

A victory away at Lincoln could all but secure United's passage from Northern Group H and into the knockout stages of the competition at the first time of asking.

However the rearranged fixture could pose somewhat of a dilemma for Wood's side as it falls one day after the senior side face Arsenal in the Premier League and two days prior to facing AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League.

This means United could be without the best young players for the EFL Trophy match with the likes of Angel Gomes and Tahith Chong potentially away on senior duty.
