Manchester United coach details Ole Gunnar Solskjaer conversation after appointment

Manchester United Women's head coach Marc Skinner has hailed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his support staff for making him feel so welcome following his recent arrival at Old Trafford.

Skinner, 38, returned to the Women's Super League last month, to replace Casey Stoney in the United hot-seat following her exit back in May.

The former teacher is back in England after a two-year spell in the United States of America in charge of Orlando Pride. He previously managed Birmingham City Women for three years between 2016 and 2019.

Now back in England, Skinner has opened up on just how big an influence United men's first-team boss Solskjaer has had on him since his arrival at Old Trafford, revealing how he was left impressed by the Norwegian for the way he swiftly replied to an email last week.

"Do you know what’s really interesting? Obviously Ole and the team started the other day," Skinner told United's club website.

“I emailed him, I think it was 5 o’clock on Friday, and literally I think within 20 minutes he emailed back and he said: 'I look forward to meeting you, welcome to the club. I’ll wander across and grab a coffee with you at some point and we can integrate ideas'.

"I’ve met all of the staff because obviously we’re based at the training ground. I’ve met all of the staff, they’ve been nothing but friendly and want to help and support in any way they can.

"This is part of the reason I came to Manchester United: I knew it had a heritage of supporting its own and growing from within and looking after each other.

"That was so important for me and that’s part of the support I was talking about. [Football Director] John Murtough is a key link to that and he’s been nothing but supportive."

Skinner will take charge of his first competitive game when United's women lock horns with Reading on Friday, September 3, at Leigh Sports Village. The side finished fourth in the Women's Super League last season and will be looking to take another step forward in their development this time around.
