Manchester United can break incredible Premier League record against Aston Villa

Manchester United know nothing other than a win will do as they prepare to face Aston Villa in their next Premier League fixture on Thursday night.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are currently unbeaten in 16 matches across all competitions and know another positive result is needed if they are to keep their hopes of a top-four finish alive.

Victory for Chelsea on Tuesday lifted them up to third in the league, while Leicester's draw with Arsenal saw them drop down to fourth with a four point lead over United.

A win for United at Villa Park on Thursday night will lift them up to fifth regardless of other results this week, and would draw Solskjaer's side to within just one point of The Foxes.

If a place in next year's Champions League wasn't motivation enough United also have an extra incentive to secure victory as they chase an incredible Premier League scoring record.

That is because United are looking to become the first team in Premier League history to win four consecutive matches by a margin of 3+ goals when they face Aston Villa this week.

United began the streak with a 3-0 win over Sheffield United two weeks ago thanks to a hat-trick from Anthony Martial, while Mason Greenwood and Bruno Fernandes netted in a 3-0 away win at Brighton last week.

United's 5-2 win over Bournemouth at the weekend was another win by such a margin and another irresistible attacking display this week will earn a place in the record books.

United are unbeaten in their last 20 Premier League away games against Aston Villa (W13 D7), since a 1-3 loss on the opening day of the 1995-96 season. It’s the longest unbeaten away run one team has had against another in top-flight history.
