Some Mancunians are just so fashionable, I've accidentlly stopped them not once, but twice for Steal Their Style. Frankie Buttons, who works in Afflecks Palace is one such stylish city dweller I've waved down more than once on her lunch break, and this week, I stopped a mother and son before realising I'd already featured one of them in a previous week, too. Must be hard having SUCH a fab wardrobe.
In typical Manchester style, it was absolutely pouring down with rain, which meant many of these outfits had been accompanied by umbrellas - the must have accessory of the next few months.
What I do love about this time of year though is COATS. My personal wardrobe features around 25 different coats and jackets, each less practical than the next. None of them have a hood and the only one that's waterproof is a vinyl trench coat I got in a Topshop sale way back when they had physical shops.

I've spotted some lovely coats and jackets in Manchester this week, including old school Gap leathers, Oxfam finds and one from viral vintage shop Bare Necessities. Boots are well and truly in now, too, with the cold weather creeping in. I actually saw a few pair of wellies this week, in a desperate attempt to keep dry as the heavens opened.
With looks from H&M, Primark, Zara, Topshop and PrettyLittleThing, here are this week's six best outfits in Manchester and how you can Steal Their Style.
Erin Grace Thompson
University fresher Erin moved to Manchester last month from Darlington to study English Literature at MMU. The 18-year-old was spotted handing out CVs to businesses in the Northern Quarter in the hopes of bagging a part time job to support her during her studies.
To create her look, Erin mixed charity shop finds with higher end pieces, from a £5 skirt to a £140 fluffy gilet from Stussy.
She added: “My Adidas Superstars were from Depop and cost about £20, and my top is from Zara. I like to go there as they have good basics that fit really well. I wear this bag all the time, too, which was £40 on Depop.”
The teen enjoys a mix of styles, from ‘skater’ to a more boho vibe. She said: “My style switches up all the time. Sometimes I dress quite skatery with baggy trousers and a beanie but other times I've got quite a hippy boho style.
“I look at models from the 90s for their style inspiration. Their off-duty style is great because the trends from the 90s come back around. I’m always looking at Kate Moss because the way she dressed in the 90s was insane.”

Atalanta Sawdon
Atalanta, who works in The Manchester Shop in Afflecks Palace, summed up her wardrobe as ‘colourful, quirky and queer’.
The 21-year-old, who lives in the city, was spotted in her beloved Dr Martens which remain the ‘most expensive’ item of clothing she’s ever bought.
She said: “These are from the Doc shop and are the only impulse purchase I’ve ever made. I wanted yellow docs for about three years and as soon as they brought them in, I bought them instantly. They’re also probably the most expensive thing I’ve ever bought.”
Atalanta styled the vibrant boots with a dress from Warehouse, which she got at a Chorlton charity shop, and a Monki jumper that had been a birthday gift.
She added: “This is a fairly feminine outfit today, but I like to play around with more androgynous looks too. The weather is very grey, life can be grey, why not bring a bit of colour.
“I really like looking at artists like David Bowie and Heather Baron Gracie from Pale Waves for style inspiration.”
Jasmine Greatholder
Salford student, Jasmine, aged 20, was spotted in some funky patterned jeans and an autumnal toned look as she sheltered from the rain in the doorway of Afflecks. What’s more, her jazzy jeans were a total bargain, costing just £12 from H&M.
She paired them with some chunky H&M boots for £20, a £4 Primark top and a blazer style leather jacket from PrettyLittleThing.
She said: “I like to look at what’s out there on the high street and I read a lot of magazines too. I hate to say, but I buy so much stuff on TikTok, it’s embarrassing, but everything is always on sale on there.
“I love big jackets this time of year. I like a lot of men’s styles and oversized looks.”
Lizi Whitton
J-fashion enthusiast Lizi found her entire outfit in charity shops or secondhand on eBay. The 19-year-old was in the city visiting her brother, and usually lives in London.
She said: “This is quite a modern, on trend look for me, I usually wear something called cult party J fashion which is inspired by medical things and quite silky materials. This is a quite Japanese inspired, though. Most people forget a lot of trends originate over there before moving here.”
Lizi’s look cost around £70, including UGG dupes which were £15 from eBay. Her coat was around £30 from Oxfam, but the real bargain was the £2 blouse.
She added: “I usually dress based on colour - I wanted to wear this shirt today so I tied in some other orange accessories. I was emo for a lot of my teens, and I've slowly migrated over to this style.”
Tessa Morton
Remember Barney from this Steal Their Style feature ? Well, believe it or not, this is his lovely mum! Barney previously told me his look is inspired by rock icons like Mick Jagger, but really, he got it from his momma.
Tessa, aged 60, says her signature style tip is always having one thing that makes an outfit more exciting, whether that’s some funky boots or a leather jacket.
Describing her fashion sense as ‘comfy, casual mum with a bit of style’, Tessa loves simple, clean, functional outfits that suit her shape.
She said: “Because I have a short waist I wear low waisted things, I don’t like things that are fussy or cluttered. I like things that enhance my strange shape. I'd love to have a waist, but when you get to my age you know your body and what suits you.”
Tessa wore a H&M skirt and top with Topshop boots and a jacket from Gap. She added: “The jacket is quite old, but was really expensive at the time, probably about £140 which is a lot for me but everything else was more affordable, high street prices.
“I like to take things from summer into winter and make sure to use my wardrobe year round.”
Bex Whiffin
A former assistant buyer, Bex Whiffin recently quit her job and is looking for something she’ll love in the fashion industry. That explains why she looks so stylish, channelling her inner Jennifer Aniston.
The 26-year-old, who’s lived in Salford for eight years, said: “My jacket is from Bare Necessities and was £20, then this is Zara - a little sale number.”
Taking full advantage of the current resurgence in 90s fashion, she added: “I’m loving this trend at the moment. I’ve been watching a lot of the TV show Friends, this is probably quite a Rachel Green look, actually. And I used to be an assistant buyer!”
And with that, she headed into Just Between Friends in the Northern Quarter to enjoy a coffee with her friend.
