Manchester restaurant titans unite for city-wide night in honour of Tim Bacon

Some of Manchester’s best-known restaurants are uniting for a city-wide fundraising takeover in memory of much-loved hospitality king Tim Bacon.

Manchester's restaurant titans including Grand Pacific, Australasia, San Carlo, Bull and Bear, Hawksmoor, 20 Stories, Tattu and more will all take part in the huge fundraising night where guests will get to dine in a restaurant of their choice before joining guests to party into the early hours together at Albert Hall.

It follows the first Dream the Impossible event held in 2017, when a similar city centre restaurant takeover raised over £500,000 for The Christie Hospital, where Tim was treated before his death aged just 52 in 2016.

Now the "Dream the Impossible: Sequel" will be held at some of the city's most popular restaurants on Thursday, September 8.

Living Ventures founders Jeremy Roberts and the late, great Tim Bacon (Living Ventures)

Tim's Living Venture's business partner Jeremy Roberts has announced the plans today, and his aim to bring 1,300 people together dining at top restaurants across the city centre before gathering at the Albert Hall for music and dancing at the culmination of the night.

Aussie entrepreneur Bacon, with his partner Jeremy Roberts, founded and built the Living Ventures empire of leisure brands including The Living Room, The Botanist, The Alchemist, Gusto, Australasia and Grand Pacific.

Jeremy set up the Tim Bacon Foundation to raise money for cancer charities in his honour, and since the first event the foundation has continued its work, raising close to £1m.

The evening will repeat the formula of the first event, with diners buying tickets for dinner and drinks at Living Ventures’ restaurants and joined this time by other leading Manchester eateries.

The full list is: The Alchemist, Gusto, Grand Pacific, Australasia, San Carlo, Habas, The Bull and Bear, Hawksmoor, 20 Stories, Tattu, and Duttons. All will be digitally connected via TV screens for a silent auction.

Jeremy said: "The Tim Bacon Foundation has now raised close to £1m towards a range of cancer-related causes, including £500,000 towards the Proton Beam Therapy Centre, which opened at the Christie in 2018.

"A further £100,000 has been donated by the foundation to Prevent Breast Cancer, for two vital research projects along with donations to Maggie’s, Joshua Tree and Kidscan – all Manchester based charities helping people living with cancer."

He adds: "We are proud of what we’ve achieved, but we are really excited to do it again bigger and even better so we can all honour Tim’s memory and help those affected by cancer, which will affect one in every two people."

Jeremy says there has been tremendous support this year from Manchester’s restaurants, and his team is now seeking sponsorship from city businesses for the individual restaurant events at £15,000 each.

Each package comes with 20 tickets, meaning sponsors staff and guests can take part, in what is set to be the biggest charity event the city’s hospitality industry has ever seen.

Marie Toller of the Christie Charity said: “We are really excited to be involved in the amazing Dream the Impossible event this year and are really looking forward to working closely with the TBF team again."

Individual tickets will go on sale closer to the time and will be priced between £150-£250 per head depending on the restaurant.
