A murder suspect from Manchester has been released with no further action to be taken against him after a woman was found dead on Boxing Day. Emergency services were called to a house on Severn Road, Blackpool, at around 7pm on December 26 after reports a woman was unresponsive.
At the scene, they found a woman, aged in her 70s, was deceased. A murder investigation was launched, and a 47-year-old man from Manchester was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken into custody for questioning by police.
However, following a post mortem, Lancashire Police have since confirmed there are no longer thought to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the woman's death and released the suspect on Tuesday night (December 27).
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "Earlier today we told you we had launched a murder inquiry after a woman was found deceased inside a property in Blackpool.
"Our officers and colleagues from the North-West Ambulance Service attended an address in Severn Road at 7.03pm on Boxing Day following reports a woman was unresponsive. When they entered, they sadly found a woman in her 70s deceased.
"A Home Office post mortem examination took place this afternoon and we are now satisfied there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the woman’s death. A file will be prepared for HM Coroner in due course.
"A 47-year-old man from Manchester arrested on suspicion of murder has since been released with no further action. Our thoughts remain with the woman’s loved ones at this difficult time."
