Northern Soul is planning to celebrate ‘National Grilled Cheese Day’ this week with free sandwiches and, for those who want them, free beers too. The Northern Quarter sandwich makers will be celebrating the annual event on April 12.
They’ll be giving away 200 sandwiches in all from 10am on Wednesday, on a first come, first served basis at their flagship restaurant on Tib Street. Then between 12pm and 3pm, they’ll be offering out free beers from Manchester brewery Shindigger too.

And in another nod to the US-originated day of the toastie, it’ll be offering one lucky customer free sandwiches for a whole year. The contest will be available to enter through their social media channels.
Founded by chef Dan Place, Northern Soul has been an NQ staple since it first opened to much hype and extensive queues in one of the market units at the end of Church Street in 2015.
It then opened its bigger venue on Tib Street in 2019, serving an expanded menu, though a further branch on Piccadilly Approach sadly closed last year. There are also outposts at the Manchester University campus, Freight Island and the Etihad.
It’s known for its range of grilled sandwiches, made with a three cheese blend on sourdough. They also serve wings, Philly cheesesteaks, beef patties, 'frickles' (fried pickles) and macaroni cheese.
