Manchester Day is back and bigger than ever with 'day-to-dusk' celebrations

Manchester Day is back, with organisers promising it is set to be 'even bigger and better' with 'day-to-dusk' celebrations.

Set to take place on Saturday July 29 this year, the city centre will see music, food and pop-up performances from 12 noon to 9pm.

Instead of a parade snaking through the city's streets, there will be a closing 'special night celebration' at the end of the day, Manchester City Council have said.

More than a decade on from Manchester Day's very first outing in 2010, there will now be more hours in the day for families to enjoy the city's free day out.

The Council is working with creative partners including Walk the Plank and Global Grooves on finalising the programme for a 'jam-packed, fun-filled day'.

The city's streets and squares will come to life with all kinds of unexpected things to see and do, and with roads closed to create more space for families to roam safely and enjoy what's on offer.

With live music, pop-up performances, have-a-go activities, art installations, crafts, a Manchester market, food and drink, and surprises on every street corner, there will be something for families and people of all ages to enjoy and get involved with.

Councillor Pat Karney, city centre spokesperson, Manchester City Council, said: "Everyone knows how much we love doing things differently here in Manchester, and after more than a decade of Manchester Days we've decided it's time to do just that and also showcase our famous Manchester nights.

"And so on Manchester Day this year - for the very first time - we're really excited to be bringing a special night city celebration to our streets and squares to round off what is set to be a fabulous day-long celebration of everything that is great about Manchester.

"It's going to be brilliant, a show-stopping finale to an amazing day and you won't want to miss it!"
