Manchester City youngster Lukas Nmecha joins Middlesbrough after Wolfsburg spell terminated

Manchester City forward Lukas Nmecha has joined Middlesbrough on loan until the end of the season after ending his spell at Wolfsburg early.

Nmecha, 21, joined Pep Guardiola 's first-team squad for the pre-season tour of China after making 44 appearances for Preston North End last year where he scored four times.

He scored in the friendly against West Ham before his loan move to Wolfsburg was confirmed at the end of June.

However, the youngster struggled for regular first-team football in the Bundesliga, making just six appearances - five of which came as a substitute.

As a result, City have opted to terminate the loan and send Nmecha to Middlesbrough instead.

He is the second player City to join the club in the January transfer window after Patrick Roberts ended his spell with Norwich to move to the Riverside Stadium.

Currently managed by former England international Jonathan Woodgate, the Yorkshire side currently sit 16th in the Championship table.

"We’re delighted to bring Lukas to the club," he told the club's official media. "He is a terrific young player who has the benefit of a year’s experience of Championship football.

"He is another young, hungry player of real quality and it’s great that we’ve been able to get him.

"In Lukas and Patrick we have signed two very good players, and we’ve been able to bring them in early in the transfer window which is a real bonus."
