Manchester City weigh up shock move for player who almost joined Bristol Rovers in January

Manchester City are said to be weighing up a surprise move for a player who almost joined Bristol Rovers in January.

The Gas narrowly missed out on taking Cardiff City youngster Cameron Coxe on loan in January, according to Wales Online , but now the 20-year-old could well be moving to the Premier League.

Coxe is out of contract at the Bluebirds and the Premier League champions have been impressed with what they have seen from the full-back, who is said to have grown frustrated at the lack of first-team opportunities in the Welsh capital.

Should he move to Man City, he would most likely be sent out on loan to one of their sister clubs, such as New York City, Melbourne City or Girona.

The full-back made his first-team debut for the Bluebirds in August 2017 in the EFL Cup and has been on the fringes of the senior squad ever since, although Rovers were keen to take him in January.

'I'm sure the Bristol Rovers fans appreciated that' - Ex-Gas boss Darrell Clarke speaks for first time after being named Walsall manager

It is unknown why the move to the Gas fell through but, with Pep Guardiola now supposedly interested in the player, it suggests that Graham Coughlan has his eyes on signing some talented players.

Coxe has represented Wales from under-17 to under-21 level and was named in a preliminary senior squad for a friendly against Mexico last season alongside then Rovers defender Tom Lockyer.
