Manchester City take Hibs goalkeeper Murray Johnson on week-long trial

Hibs goalkeeper Murray Johnson has joined Manchester City on trial.

The 16-year-old has joined up with the English Premier League leaders this week and will spend a week at their Etihad training base, reports Capital City Press.

Johnson has been a standout for the Easter Road club’s academy teams this season and already has three Scotland Under 21 caps to his name.

The 6’2 stopper has already trained with Jack Ross ’ first team this season, being put through his paces under the watchful eye of goalkeeping coach Craig Samson alongside Ofir Marciano, Matt Macey and Kevin Dabrwoski.

Should City be impressed enough to want to sign Johnson, they’d be due a fee to Hibs after the ‘keeper put pen to paper on his first professional contract last month.

It’s understood it would take six figures to prise the highly rated youngster away from Leith.

Fellow youngster Ethan Laidlaw also signed his first pro deal with The Hibees, as the striker and former ball boy committed his future to the club yesterday.
