Pep Guardiola's side will be hoping for a busy few days ahead as the summer transfer window concludes.
Manchester City have missed out on the arrival of Harry Kane after the England captain announced his decision to stay at Tottenham this summer.
However, with Guardiola's squad still short of a number 9, fans will be hoping City will keep an eye on potential targets and enter the transfer market in order to make one last acquisition.
Jack Grealish's arrival is already an enticing one, but a no.9 could put the icing on the cake.
On top of that City will also be hoping to offload some of their fringe players.
MEN have looked at the best and worst case scenarios for City.
Best case scenario
City's best case scenario will invariably involve recruiting a no.9 before the window ends.
Guardiola's short of options in the position and if the club are serious about securing a consecutive Premier League title their fate could hinge on who comes in to replace the departing Sergio Aguero.
Of course, the forward has to be the right price and quality too.
On an objective basis City could do a lot worse than Cristiano Ronaldo, though of course his Manchester Untied connection would understandably not make a move universally popular.
But even if Ronaldo is not the one to come in, a player who is capable of scoring 15-20 goals a season could be enough to give Guardiola and his men the extra edge over their rivals.
On top of incomings, City will want to offload some of their fringe players in order to raise funds too.
The club have done very well in selling players for the right price, but there are still a few left who could be shifted on such as Patrick Roberts and Philippe Sandler. If City can move them on at the right price and buy a forward, the fans will be over the moon.
Worst case scenario
If City are unable to sign a forward, that would not be the end of the world. However, if they fail to sign a forward and lose Bernardo Silva that could be detrimental especially with Phil Foden still out injured.
Guardiola had proved in the past he can survive without a proven top-class centre forward, but he needs options to play the false number nine and to deputise on the wing.
If City lose Bernardo Silva, they will be losing a top class player and they will have one less option particularly if they do not replace him.
Even with the arrival of Jack Grealish, Guardiola could be short of options when the fixture congestion increases throughout the season.
Not signing a forward could leave a sour taste in some fans' mouths, particularly when you look at how Chelsea were able to land Romelu Lukaku this summer.
