Manchester City cancel Pep Guardiola press conference after inconclusive Covid-19 test

Manchester City have cancelled their pre-match press conference after Pep Guardiola had inconclusive Covid-19 test,

The Citizens boss was due to meet the media today ahead of the trip to Newcastle United this weekend, but the Man City boss has been forced to cancel his pre-match media duties, report the Manchester Evening News.

The City boss was tested as part of the Premier League's stringent new measures to 'tighten up the bubbles around clubs' after a week where positive Covid-19 tests hit a record high since football restarted.

Guardiola lost his mother Covid in the summer of 2020 and has been a strong advocate of health measures aimed at tackling the illness.

The Magpies game against the Premier League champions is still set to go ahead at the time of writing, but is just one of five games set to take place this weekend after a surge in coronavirus cases.

However, Guardiola will not travel with the squad for the game and could be set for a ten day isolation period.

Man City assistants Juanma Lillo and Rodolfo Borrell are expected to take charge of the squad's trip to Newcastle if the game goes ahead, and Lillo could hold a press conference later today, with Guardiola's original Zoom meeting with the media scheduled for 12.30pm today, now cancelled.

If the subsequent test is negative, Guardiola will resume his duties.
