Manchester Airport's warning to anyone flying out in the next week

Manchester Airport has issued a warning to anyone flying out in the next week.

National Highways has planned closures of the M56 in September 2022 as part of a motorway upgrade programme. There will be a full westbound carriageway closure between junction 5 and 7 until Monday September 5 2022.

A second full weekend closure is planned for both carriageways from 9pm Friday September 9 to 6am Monday September 12 2022 between eastbound carriageway heading towards Manchester will be closed between junctions 9 and 5 and westbound carriageway heading away from Manchester, will be closed between junction 5 and 8.

Manchester Airport said there will be clear signed diversions in place. Delays are expected, drivers are being asked to allow approximately 30 minutes to their journey.

Eastbound - Traffic will be diverted off the M56 at Junction 9 to join the M6 Northbound travel on to Junction 21a and follow diversion signs to M62 Eastbound. Traffic will then continue on the M62 Eastbound to J12 to join the M60 (Anti-Clockwise). Continue on to J5 and then onto the A5103 Northbound leading on to the M56 Westbound.

Westbound - Traffic will be diverted off the M56 at junction 5 and turn at Terminal 2 Roundabout on the Airport Spur Road and back onto the M56 Eastbound at junction 5, travel on the M56 and then (Princess Park Way), onto the M60 (Clockwise). Continue to J12 to join the M62 Westbound carry on to Junction 10 on to the M6 Southbound and M56 Westbound traffic will leave the M6 at J20a and re-join the M56 at Junction 9.
