Manchester Airport has changed its guidance on passengers wearing gloves

Passengers travelling through Manchester Airport will no longer be required to wear gloves, it was announced today.

Since the weekend, passengers have been asked to wear face coverings, including masks, scarves, or other makeshift methods using clothing.

The new safety measures are part of a pilot which also initially included asking passengers to wear gloves.

However on Monday, the travel hub said gloves were no longer required.

In a statement shared across its social media pages this morning, the airport said: "We are moving into the next phase of our Safe System of Travel pilot.

"Temperature checks will continue to be trialled and passengers will be asked to wear face coverings, but gloves will no longer be required.

"Covid-19 is an unprecedented challenge for aviation and we are conducting this pilot to better understand how we can increase capacity whilst maintaining passenger safety.

"We will keep these measures under constant review and will amend them if and when we feel it's appropriate, based on feedback from passengers, colleagues and guidance from our advisers."

Passengers will still be required to wear face coverings.

The airport is asking anyone who brings their own face covering with them to the airport to ensure that they fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face, offer coverage above and below the mouth and nose, allow for breathing without restriction are secure and include multiple layers of fabric.

in the early stages of the pilot, for those arriving without, the airport will provide gloves and masks from 'dedicated stations in Arrivals and Departures, that can be worn throughout passengers’ time in the airport.

Staff will also be on hand to guide passengers and help them navigate through the usual security processes while wearing protective equipment

Manchester Airport Group has also introduced the guidelines at its other hubs, which include Stansted and East Midlands, making them the first in the UK to ask their passengers to wear face coverings.

It has also installed a new heat-seeking camera in Terminal One security, which will scan for signs of a fever related to COVID-19 in every passenger.

Bosses have stressed this is only a trial of the technology and passengers will not be told the result of the scan - nor will it affect whether or not they can travel.
