Manchester Airport assault retrial jury fail to reach verdict

  • Two brothers, Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 21, and Muhammad Amaad, 26, faced a retrial for allegedly assaulting a police officer at Manchester Airport.
  • They were accused of inflicting a 'high level of violence' on Pc Zachary Marsden in July 2024 during a fracas that went viral on social media.
  • Both defendants denied the charge at Liverpool Crown Court, stating they acted in lawful self-defence or in defence of the other.
  • The jury was discharged by Judge Neil Flewitt KC after failing to reach verdicts following nearly 20 hours of deliberation.
  • The case has been adjourned until 29 May to allow the Crown Prosecution Service to decide whether to pursue a third trial.
